APRIL 8

Spring Spectacular Fundraiser. An evening to benefit the pantry and help end hunger in DuPage County. Included in the evening will be a Memorial Tribute to pantry founder, Roger Schmith. APRIL 9

Sewing Workshop. 10 a.m. at the Woodridge Public Library, 3 Plaza Drive. Sewing teacher Sue Murray will guide beginners in using their own sewing machine to create a simple project on April 9 and April 30 at 10 a.m. at the Woodridge Library. For a list of required supplies and to register, visit the events calendar at woodridgelibrary.org or call 630-487- 2581. This program is free and open to the public.

 

Passport to Safety Day. 10 a.m. to noon at the Lincoln Center, 935 Maple Ave., Downers Grove. Passport to Safety and Wheely Big Trucks join forces for a day of fun-filled, family education and entertainment. Sponsored by the village of Downers Grove, Downers Grove Park District and Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital. The event offers safety tips for all ages. Each child will receive a passport at the entrance to be stamped at each activity as they meet with local safety experts.

 

APRIL 10

Concert: Chicago History in Song. 2 p.m. at Downers Grove Public Library, 1050 Curtiss St. A guitar, piano and Native American flute come together to show Chicago’s history in song. Songs include El-A-Noy, Song of the Ferris Wheel, and of course, Sweet Home Chicago. Performed by History Singer Kathryn Atwood. Refreshments provided.

 

APRIL 13

Student Art Show. 6-7:30 p.m. at the Woodridge Public Library, 3 Plaza Drive. Members of the public are invited to attend the opening reception of the District 99 Student Art Show. Awards will be announced at 7 p.m. for the top entries in each of five art media categories. The student exhibition will run through April 29.

 

APRIL 14

Read to the Dogs. 7 p.m. at Downers Grove Public Library, 1050 Curtiss St. Share a story with some good doggy listeners. Therapy dogs will be here to listen to children read stories to them. Reading to these dogs can improve children’s reading and communication skills while also being fun! Call 630-960-1200 to schedule a 15-minute slot.

 

APRIL 16

30th Annual Road Rally. 3:30 p.m. Looking for adventure? Grab your neighbors and friends to create a team of four to six adults per vehicle. You will get a map and bag of clues; you’ll need teamwork, logic and luck to stay on track. At the completion of the rally, teams meet for an awards presentation and socialize at a pizza dinner. Space is limited. Registration deadline is April 13. Captain’s letters are emailed the first week of April. An email address is required upon registration.

 

Wild Night Out. 6 p.m. at Lyman Woods. Kids- need a break from your parents? Send them out on a date and come to Lyman Woods for a wild Saturday night! Search the woods for nocturnal animals and search the skies for the stars and planets! End the evening with an indoor project. Ages: 4-10.

Musician Laura Doherty Visits. 10 a.m. at Downers Grove Public Library, 1050 Curtiss St. Laura will rock your world with breezy folk-pop tunes from her three Parent’s Choice award-winning CDs. This upbeat, interactive concert will have kids dancing and clapping along to Laura’s original catchy tunes! Geared toward preschoolers.

 

The Corps and the War of 1812. 7 p.m. at Downers Grove Public Library, 1050 Curtiss St. Discover the many connections between the War of 1812 and members of the Lewis and Clark Expedition’s Corps of Discovery. A description of the events and current day pictures from the places where they served will be included in the talk.
