Dine and Dash. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Let the Park District do the driving and you enjoy the ride! This trip is geared for adults 50 and up and is $8 per resident/ $10 for nonresidents. The bus leaves from the Plainfield Township Community Center, 15014 S. DesPlaines St. Lunch is on your own and then shop at the Promenade afterwards. Vietnam War Reenactment. 7:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Plainfield High School – Central Campus, 24120 Fort Beggs Drive, Plainfield. Plainfield High School – Central Campus will host a Vietnam War program for students throughout the school day on Friday, April 8. The program includes an outdoor battle reenactment with a semiautomatic rifle demonstration.

April Abilities Expo. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Mary Immaculate Parish, 15629 S. Route 59, Plainfield. The Plainfield Township Disabilities Committee will host its sixth annual Abilities Expo. This event is FREE. The Expo will include a guest speaker, more than 60 exhibitors providing support to people with various disabilities as well as activities throughout the day in the demonstration area, including: Mobility Works Custom Vehicles, Service Dog Demonstrations, Cheer Demonstrations, Song and Dance Demonstrations and Sensory Story Time Tent. The exhibitors showcase will feature products and services including: automobile/van conversions; assistive technologies; adaptive home/work equipment; beds, furnishings and accessories; and several more. Will/Grundy Genealogical Society meeting. 10 a.m. at Coal City Public Library, 85 N. Garfield St., Coal City. This month’s program will feature a video workshop on taking control of your genealogical clutter, entitled “Taming Your Inner Packrat” For those who are drowning in a sea of paper, documents, photos and charts, this session will address how to organize, store and share your research materials. The program is presented by Lisa A. Alzo, MFA, a noted writer, lecturer, and genealogist. Traditional methods as well as computer technology will be addressed and handouts will be provided. The public is welcome to attend, and refreshments will be served.
Plainfield Fire District Community Blood Drive. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Plainfield Fire District Administration Building, 23748 W. 135th St., Plainfield. Migratory Bird Hike. 8 to 10 a.m. at the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Lake Renwick Heron Rookery Nature Preserve, located on Renwick Road, 0.5 mile east of Route 30. View the many waterfowl, eagles, songbirds and more that use Lake Renwick to rest and refuel during their migration. Bring binoculars (a limited supply will be available for loan) and dress for the weather. Participants will hike up to 1.5 miles on natural surfaces across uneven terrain. Green Village Program – Rain Barrel Workshop. 7 p.m. at Plainfield Public Library, 15025 S. Illinois St. Learn different ways to conserve water and how to properly install a rain barrel. The Village will take pre-orders for new and decorative barrels, plus there will be a giveaway for one lucky attendee. Register online. The Green Village Series is a partnership between the Plainfield Public Library District and the village to provide the community with environmental programs.

Free College Planning. 2-3 p.m. at the village of Plainfield Community Room, 24401 W. Lockport St. Parents and 2017 and 2018 graduates are invited to a free college planning class, “How to Choose the Best College for your Student and your Pocketbook.” Attendees will learn about new rules and filing dates for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, tips to improve SAT and ACT scores, how to choose the best college the application process, and ways to maximize scholarship and grant potential, among other topics. Super Seeds. 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Isle a la Cache Museum, 501 E. Romeo Road. Learn how seeds move and where they come from. Participants will plant seeds to make a mini “three sisters’ garden” – similar to those planted by Native Americans – to take home. The free program is for ages 5-15. Join Director of Finance, Maureen Nugent as she explains how to read your property tax bill and the property tax process. Participants may bring in their own property tax bill to follow along.
