DECEMBER 4

Holiday Movie: ‘A Christmas Story’. 4 to 6 p.m. at the Downers Grove Public Library, 1050 Curtiss St., Downers Grove. For more information, visit www.downersgrovelibrary.org.

 

Holiday Celebration and Tree Lighting. 5 to 6:15 p.m. at Seven Bridges, Woodridge. Santa is coming to town. Come share the magic of the holidays. The event will feature food truck vendors and guest appearances by Olaf, Elsa, Anna, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and the Ninja Turtles. For more information, visit www.go7bridges.org.

 

DECEMBER 5-6

“It’s A Wonderful Life.” 1:30 p.m. both days at Tivoli Theatre, 5021 Highland Ave., Downers Grove. The event will benefit Sharing Connections Furniture Bank. George Bailey and the magical town of Bedford Falls return for “It’s Wonderful Life.” Admission is $5 per person, and tickets can be purchased at the Tivoli Theatre or online at www.classiccinemas.com.

 

DECEMBER 5

A Colonial Christmas. 5 to 8 p.m. at the Gregg House Museum, 117 S. Linden Ave., Westmont. Holly, ivy, mistletoe, fruit and fox hunts! Come learn about holiday customs and traditions of our founding fathers. The museum will be beautifully decorated with lots of fresh greenery and fruit to celebrate a colonial Christmas. Children are invited to make a small holiday craft to take home.

 

DECEMBER 6

Uncle Jon’s Family Music Ukulele Band Holiday Concert. 2 to 3 p.m. at the Westmont Public Library, 428 N. Cass Ave., Westmont. The band will entertain music lovers of all ages with a hand-picked collection of holiday tunes in a range of styles including tin pan alley, jazz, Hawaiian, country, pop, and rock.

 

Woodridge Jaycees Chili for Children 15th Annual Fundraiser. Noon at Shanahan’s Food and Spirits, 1999 75th St., Woodridge. During the Bears Game. This is a BIG Event! All-you-can-eat chili and watch the Bears at a fundraiser for children. Donations are being accepted for raffle prizes. Contact Anna M. Package Your Home to Sell. 7 p.m. at Downers Grove Public Library, 1050 Curtiss St. Whether you are staging to sell or dwell, learn to beautifully package your home to impress. You only get one chance to make a great first impression. Presented by Julea Joseph.

 

DECEMBER 9

Light Up the Holidays Story Time. 6:30 p.m. at Westmont Public Library, 428 N. Cass Ave. Free! All Ages with parent. Help light up the night and celebrate the diversity of the winter holidays as we explore the ways various cultures observe the darkest time of year. There will be stories, crafts, and games for the entire family to enjoy! Holiday-wear encouraged but not required.

 

DECEMBER 10

Holiday Family Fun. 7 to 8 p.m. at the Downers Grove Public Library, 1050 Curtiss St., Downers Grove. Come for a special night of warmth and good cheer as the library celebrates the joy of the December holidays. DECEMBER 12

Handmade Holidays. 9 a.m. at the Lyman Woods Nature Center, 901 31st St., Downers Grove. Children are invited to create nature-inspired gifts while their parents get a handle on the holiday hustle. Bring a gift list for as many as six people and the park district will supply the project ideas and supplies. For children ages 4 to 10. Open house. 3 to 6 p.m. at Lisle Library, 777 Front St., Lisle. The Lisle Library District is wrapping up their year-long 50th Anniversary celebration with an open house. Residents are invited to stop in for the chance to win prizes; as well as enjoy snacks, drinks and cake. In addition to library tours and a “retro” photo booth, attendees can enjoy a special performance by the Lisle High School Jazz Band. Lunch with Santa. noon at the Westmont Park District’s Administrative Building, 55 E. Richmond St., Westmont. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be taking a break from their busy schedule. Attendees will enjoy delicious pizza, soda, juice, milk and a yummy dessert. After lunch, a merry afternoon is planned, with singing, audience participation and lots of surprises. Take family pictures in front of the Christmas tree and enjoy the spirit of the season. Children can also visit Santa in his beautifully decorated workshop and tell him what is on their Christmas list. Registration is required. Lunch starts promptly at Noon. Children under 2 are free. Westmont Winter Wonderland. 5 to 8 p.m. at the Westmont Community Center, 75 E. Richmond St., and the Westmont Park District’s Administrative Building, 55 E. Richmond St. Visit Santa and his elves in Santa’s Workshop, learn about dog sledding and meet some real huskies from Z-Team and board the Trackless Train for a ride around the park (nominal fee). DECEMBER 12-13

West Towns Chorus. 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 12, 2 p.m. on Dec. 13 at the Tivoli Theatre, 5201 Highland Ave., Downers Grove. Chicagoland’s premier men’s four-part harmony group, the West Towns Chorus, will once again grace the historic Tivoli Theatre’s newly-expanded stage for their annual holiday show, entitled ”The Heart of Christmas.” This year’s program features traditional holiday favorites as well as new tunes. Tickets for premium seating are $27 per person; discounts available for groups of 10 or more, students with ID and children 12 and under. All seating is reserved.
