Labor Day 2019 Impaired Driving and Occupant Protection Holiday Mobilization
The Morton Grove Police Department announced its plans for an end of summer Labor Day traffic enforcement initiative. This safety initiative will focus on drunk and unbuckled drivers through the use of saturation patrols. The mobilization will occur during August and September so as to encompass the Labor Day holiday, a time of increased traffic volume and crashes.
Our department will join the Illinois State Police and the Illinois Department of Transportation in this mobilization. Please utilize a designated driver, ride share, or other alternatives if drinking alcoholic beverages during this holiday season.
The Morton Grove Police Department’s goal is to save lives, prevent severe injuries and achieve a higher percentage of safety belt compliance through education, public information, and aggressive safety belt/DUI enforcement.

D64 Board will meet at all schools again in 2019-20
Carpenter School will have the distinction of hosting the first D64 Board of Education meeting at our neighborhood schools for the 2019-20 school year.
Continuing a longstanding tradition, the Board rotates its meeting locations to visit all eight schools each school year and connect with the community in-person. The on-site meetings make it convenient for parents and local residents to attend, and also allow the Board to view recent facility updates or better understand each building’s needs. School principals brief the Board at the start of the meeting about learning initiatives and other points of pride; students often participate by leading the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Board will meet at Carpenter (north gym), 300 N. Hamlin, on Monday, September 23 for its regular monthly meeting beginning at 7:00 p.m. Other official annual visits to neighborhood schools will be held on:
Franklin School, 2401 Manor Lane – October 28, 2019
Lincoln Middle School, 200 S. Lincoln – November 11, 2019
Field School, 707 N. Wisner – December 16, 2019
Jefferson School, 8200 N. Greendale, Niles – Tuesday, February 18, 2020
Washington School, 1500 Stewart – March 16, 2020
Roosevelt School, 1001 S. Fairview, Park Ridge – April 20, 2020
Emerson Middle School, 8101 N. Cumberland, Niles – May 18, 2020
Additional meetings are held throughout the year, usually at Jefferson School. As the schedule is subject to change, please confirm meeting dates and times on the Board meetings webpage.
For those unable to attend in person, District 64 offers full-length videos of all Board meetings. Each video is posted to the Board meetings webpage and includes a handy counter to pinpoint discussion on any agenda item. The District 64 eNews alerts subscribers when the videos have been posted.
News briefs with highlights of each Board meeting also are available here.
D64 invites all community residents to watch your school board in action — in person or via video — when they meet in your neighborhood this year.
Hearing on 2019-20 budget set for August 19
At its July 15, 2019 meeting, the D64 Board of Education adopted a tentative budget for the new fiscal year, which may be viewed on the Financial Data – Current webpage. The Board previously reviewed the tentative budget in detail at the June 10 and 20 meetings.
For 2019-20, D64 Operating Fund revenues are expected to exceed estimated expenditures by more than $1.7 million, when capital projects are excluded. The budget will continue to be refined and revised through the summer as the 2018-19 fiscal year is closed out, and new information becomes available such as hiring driven by actual enrollment when the new school year opens in August.
A public hearing on the 2019-20 budget will be held at 6:45 p.m. before the regular Board meeting on Monday, August 19 at Jefferson School (multipurpose room), 8200 Greendale, Niles, IL. The budget in its final form will be officially adopted on September 23, 2019.
