A special Niles committee is currently looking into more ways for the village to generate revenue.

Mayor Andrew Przybylo officially announced the creation of the Economic Enhancement Ad Hoc Committee during the Nov. 17 village of Niles Board of Trustees meeting. At the time, he said that it was important for the village to enhance its revenue streams. He appointed trustee Denise McCreery and trustee Dean Strzelecki to serve as committee co-chairs.

Both trustees have experience in the village business community. McCreery formerly served as the executive director of the Niles Chamber of Commerce and Industry, while Strzelecki previously served as the chamber’s board president.

Since the announcement, the committee held its first meeting Jan. 12 at 8 a.m. Trustee George Alpogianis, who attended the meeting, said it was too early in the process to talk about any specifics.

“It’s really in the beginning stages, and there are 45 ideas we’ll be looking at them,” he said.

Hayley Garard, the village’s communications and multimedia coordinator, said that the committee will run the ideas past whichever village departments would be affected by them.

“They want to go through the ideas and check for pluses and minuses,” she said. “[So] when they to the board, they will be solid.”

As with other village committee and commission meetings, the economic enhancement committee meets are open to the public. The next meeting is currently scheduled for Feb. 2, at 8:30 a.m., at the Niles Village Hall’s second floor conference room.
