Letter to the Editor: A wonderful start to the new year

I would like to relate my elation from reading the Op-Ed “Life doesn’t have to be perfect for it to be joyful” by Daniel Smrokowski. What a wonderful column to start the new year, joyful indeed.

With the mass commercialization of the preceding holidays, he offered “some resolutions for how you can change the game for a more accepting and inclusive world.” His message of positive change, perseverance, maximizing personal achievement and call for readers to consider the contributions by persons with special needs was in hard contrast to the divisiveness and acrimony that commands so much mass media coverage.

Also, whatever limitations his medical condition causes him are not reflected in his articles, which appear in the Bugle. Rather, Mr. Smrokowski’s journalism is instead completely cogent, well ordered and with an eloquence that far surpasses that of many other authors. By comparison, it is common to find columns by “professional” writers so inelegantly constructed as to be almost painful to read.

Further, he does so while avoiding the strident advocacy and victimization that often diminishes similar pieces.

Respectfully,

Glenn Gabryel
