What could beat an afternoon of golf on one of America’s most renowned public golf courses?
How about meeting a golf legend and helping to give the gift of a values-based, Benedictine education to the next generation of bright leaders while doing so?
Benedictine University’s 22nd Annual President’s Invitational Golf Outing will be held Tuesday, July 19, at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Lemont. This year’s celebrity guest will be World Golf Hall of Fame member Ben Crenshaw, widely considered one of golf’s greatest putters.
The cost for golf, program and dinner is $350 per person ($1,400 per foursome). Program and dinner-only tickets are $150. Proceeds from the event help provide scholarships for Benedictine students.
Registration and lunch begin at 11:00 a.m. A shotgun tee-off will commence at 1:00 p.m. During play, Crenshaw will tour the course to take pictures with participants. The program, awards presentation and dinner begin at 6:00 p.m.
A two-time Masters champion, Crenshaw – affectionately nicknamed “Gentle Ben” – enjoyed a successful professional golfing career that spanned three decades. His extraordinary golfing skills, “golden boy” image and all-American good looks made him an instant fan favorite.
When he turned pro in 1973, he became the second player in PGA Tour history to win his first tournament as a professional at the Texas Open. He went on to accumulate 19 PGA Tour victories, including the 1984 and 1995 Masters Tournaments.
After his competitive days on the PGA Tour ended, he turned his focus to a career in golf architecture. With partner Bill Coore, Crenshaw designed some of the most acclaimed golf courses of the 1990s and early 21st century.
Crenshaw was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2002. The avid golf historian also served as an ambassador for the hall of fame.
