MAY 21

Trail Safety Days. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rock Run Preserve, Black Road access, located west of Essington Road in Joliet. In-line skaters, walkers, wildlife watchers, runners and cyclists are invited to attend one of these events to learn how to share trails safely. Personal best practices, sharpening trail awareness and rules of trail usage will be explored. Forest preserve police will also be present to talk with trail users and answer questions from the public. Registration is not required for this free, all-ages event.

 

MAY 22

Forest Preserve District Workday. 8 a.m. to noon at Sugar Creek Administration Center in Joliet. Spend some time this spring and summer helping the Forest Preserve District of Will County maintain its natural areas by volunteering for a resource management workday. Bike Safety Rodeo. 1 to 3 p.m. at Richland School, 1919 Caton Farm Road, Crest Hill. The Lockport Township Park District is hosting a Bike Safety Rodeo for ages 4-8 years. Kids enjoy bike races, skills course, bike decorating, bike raffle, refreshments, bike safety education and more. Goody bags for first 100 kids. Free event, bring your bikes and helmets. MAY 25

TRIAD Senior Health, Safety, & Lifestyle Expo. 9 a.m. to noon at the Edward Hospital Athletic and Event Center, 55 Phelps, Romeoville. This free annual event is tailored specifically to the needs of senior citizens. Over 75 organizations and vendors will be on hand to describe their services and hand out freebies. MAY 26

JJC Summer Farmers Market. 2-6 p.m. at the Joliet Junior College Greenhouse Facility, 1215 Houbolt Road, Joliet. Farmers Market season is here, and Joliet Junior College is pleased to bring its annual farmers market for a fourth year. The 2016 Farmers Market will be open Thursdays from May 26 to Sept. 15.

 

MAY 28

Joliet Iron Works Tour. 10 a.m. to noon at the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Joliet Iron Works Historic Site, located on Columbia Street, east of Scott Street. View the ruins of this former iron and steel production site and hear stories of the people who worked there. The tour takes place on accessible, paved paths. Registration is required by Thursday, May 26, for the free, all-ages program; call 815-886-1467.

 

MAY 30

Memorial Day Ceremony. 2 p.m. at Crest Hill Veterans Memorial Park, 1610 Plainfield Road. The city of Crest Hill will hold its 28th annual Memorial Day ceremony. This ceremony honors all Crest Hill veterans and also policemen killed in the line of duty. Guest speaker will be Scott Pointon, a Marine veteran and director of White Oak Library. Chief Dwayne Wilkerson will give the Police Memorial address. All are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served. In case of inclement weather the ceremony will be moved to Richland School, 1919 Caton Farm Road.
