Locals enjoy success at state

Joliet Catholic Academy’s Jack Geissler posted the area’s best showing at the state tennis meet last weekend, going 5-2 and losing in the consolation quarterfinals.

He opened play with wins over Yash Patel of Oak Forest (6-0, 6-0), Kirby Julian of Chicago Northside (6-1, 6-2) and Ryan Mitchell of Lincoln-Way East (6-2, 6-4).

He then lost to Brett Meyers of Neuqua Valley (6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-0) before bouncing back to beat DJ Colantone of Plainfield Central (6-4, 7-5) and Kailash Panchapakesan of Jacobs (6-3, 6-4).

Geissler was then eliminated by Brandon Ancona of Rockford Christian (7-6 (6), 6-0).

Lockport’s Jack Randall posted a 3-2 record, falling in the sixth round of the consolation bracket.

Randall opened play with three wins in a row, defeating Nikhil Piska of Lincoln-Way East (6-1, 6-1), Hayden Dzurisin of Prairie Ridge (6-0, 6-4) and Blake Oslan of North Shore Country Day (6-0, 6-3).

He then fell to Vuk Budic of Deerfield (6-4, 6-3) before being eliminated by Zach Elliott of Hinsdale Central (6-4, 6-2).

Morgan Red of Joliet West went 2-2 in state play.

He opened with a win over Devohn Hall of Homewood-Flossmoor (6-3, 6-0) then lost to Mack Galvin of Rolling Meadows (6-1, 6-1).

Red rallied back to defeat Donald Flynn of Chicago Heights Marian (6-0, 6-1), but was eliminated by Piotr Lada of Lake Park (7-5, 6-4).

On the doubles side, the Lockport tandem of Nolan Gilbertson and Lucas Pindak went 1-2 at state. The Porters opened with a loss to Demetri Triantafel and Matt Dickett of Lyons (6-4, 6-2). They then defeated Josh Euhus and Parker Hearne of Hononegah (6-4, 7-6 (4)) before being eliminated by Seth Lipe and Carson Ware of Edwardsville (6-2, 6-3).

Minooka’s doubles team of Reed Christensen and Thomas Schieffer lost both of their matches, falling to Sam Komis and Benjamin Bush of Stevenson (6-0, 6-0) and Mason Clark and Jace Hardy of LaSalle-Peru (6-3, 6-2).
