Dons start week strong before getting swept by JCA

Notre Dame had a big week, opening it up with a 10-0 win over Jacobs. John Hendry and Alec Van Pelt combined for the shutout. Rank Stevanovic had three hits, while Matt Segovia had a double, homer and three RBI.

The Dons topped Cary-Grove 12-11. Stevanovic went 4-for-4 with three RBI, Sam Ferri was 3-for-3 with a home run and Matt Segovia had a double, triple and three RBI.

Notre Dame scored eight runs in the first inning as it cruised to a 12-6 win over Prospect. Kevin Garcia went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Ferry had three hits, while Tim Simon had a double and home run, Stevanovic had two hits with a home run and two RBI and Matt Krogstad had two hits with a double and three RBI.

Notre Dame’s strong week came to a halt Saturday, dropping a double header to ESCC for Joliet Catholic.

The first game was a 2-0 loss as the Dons (9-5) managed just two hits, while the second game was a 3-1 loss with just two hits and an RBI from Stevanovic.

•Maine South fell to Deerfield 3-0, managing just three hits.

The Hawks fell to Glenbrook South 10-7. Andrew Lynn (double, 3 RBI), Nick Cecelia (2 RBI) and Tim Schau all had two hits in defeat.

Maine South came back to win the next matchup two days later 10-9. David Fleita had a double, home run and five RBI to lead the way. Lynn had two hits with a triple and two RBI, while Matt Whitelaw and Tyler Short also had two hits each.

The Hawks fell to Nazareth 6-5. Tim Schau had two hits and Tyler Short had two RBI in defeat.

Maine South (5-11) finished the week with a 2-1 loss to Elk Grove. Short allowed seven hits and two runs, one earned on the mound. Danny Touhy had two hits at the plate.

•Niles West mustered four hits in a 3-2 loss to Highland. Brandon Kahara went six innings on the mound, allowing three runs, one earned.

The Wolves fell to Waukegan 8-7 despite two hits apiece from Sam Butera, Diego Acosta (2B) and Justin Gibson (2 RBI).

Niles West rebounded with an 11-3 win over Waukegan. Butera pitched six innings, allowing three hits and there runs, one earned, striking out five. Christos Tountos had three hits with two doubles and scored three runs, while Sam Rukin had two hits and two RBI, Butera had two hits and two RBI, Johnny Pabst had two hits and Jeremy Hoffman had three RBI.

Niles West (12-3) beat Von Steuben 14-6 as Bobby Lochner had three hits with a double and three RBI, while Diego Acosta (double, 2 RBI) and Justin Gibson each had a pair of hits. Hoffman added two RBI.

SOFTBALL

Sarah Hoffman had three hits with a double, home run and two RBI as Maine South beat Glenbrook South 8-0. Maddie Rog went six innings on the mound, striking out seven and allowing one hit.

Rog struck out 10 in a 3-2 loss to Evanston. Britney Richardson and Julia Bork each had two hits with a double.

•Niles West topped Regina Dominican 8-4 as Callieh Mohr had two hits with a triple and two RBI and Gianna Mahoney contributed two RBI. Grace Benzevinga allowed just one earned run.

The Wolves crushed Waukegan 19-1. Mahoney had two hits with a double, while Leah Steinfeld and Hailey Fishman each had two RBI.

Niles West had three hits in an 11-1 loss to New Trier.

The Wolves (4-7) fell to Vernon Hills 10-1 and 15-0 Saturday.
