Maine Township High School District 207 DECA students excelled at the recent Illinois state competition in Rosemont, which featured more than 1,200 DECA members from 53 Illinois high schools.
Sixteen District 207 students finished in the Top 3 in their events, thereby qualifying for national competition April 23-26 in Nashville. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools around the world.
Maine West students who finished in the Top 3 and qualified for nationals are Dara Kovacheva and Brooke Saunders, both of whom qualified in three events; Runal Patel and David Joseph; both of whom qualified in two events; and Ben Joseph, Aby Thomas and Alvin Thomas.
Maine East students who finished in the Top 3 in their events and qualified for nationals are Josh Seitz, Patricia Bogdan, Adrianne Payne, Riya Parikh, Miguel Gutierrez and Richard Tian Tang Yu.
Maine South students qualifying for nationals are Jacqueline Betthauser, Sarah Deitke and Nikola Petrovic.
Maine West students finishing in the Top 10 in their events were Sheikh Maazuddin, Richa Patel, Vaidika Patel, Dulce Cabrera, Kajol Patel, Sanchita Chakraborty, Olena Andrushko, Boyan Djurovic, Justin Varkey, Miljana Djurovic, Sanitha Mathews, Melvin Suni, Brad Burton and David Joseph.
Maine East students placing in the Top 10 in their events in the state competition were Ali Chaus, Aneri Patel, Deepa Mani, Febin Chirayath, Harsh Prajapati, Jan Leigh Lundang, Jheel Shah, Julia Osika, Majda Murati, Mansi Bodalia, Miguel Gutierrez and Sindi Piranej.
Maine South students placing in the Top 10 were Jen Betthauser, Noah Fishman, Jeffrey Galiotto, Demitri Speron and Brendan Sir.
Youth Coalition hosts ‘Getting Youth Involved’ townhall
Officer Al Vincic from the Skokie Police Department will speak on the topic of gang awareness in Niles Township during the event – scheduled for 6:30 p.m. April 12 at Niles West High School, 5701 W. Oakton, Skokie.
Student representatives from Niles North and Niles West will speak about their experiences participating in the myriad of clubs and activities at the schools. There is a club or activity to suit almost every interest.
Following the presentation, audience members can join in small group discussions about various topics related to youth involvement and leadership roles in the schools.
The district will host an Information Fair and refreshments following the meeting.

The Niles Township Youth Coalition is composed of local community agencies that serve Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Niles and Skokie. Its purpose is to bring together the key organizations that work with children and families in Niles Township.
Maine West to host D. 207 International Celebration April 9
Maine Township High School District 207 is inviting the community of all three of its schools – Maine East, South and West – to its upcoming annual International Celebration.
The annual event is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. April 9 at Maine West High School, 1755 S. Wolf Road, Des Plaines. Attendees will enjoy an afternoon full of activities and entertainment celebrating culture and cuisine from around the world. Admission is free. A wide array of international food will be available for purchase.
