Teens who use the Niles Teen Center and attend Niles schools will no longer automatically receive resident rates.
On March 22, the Niles Village Board unanimously approved changes to the center’s rules, as part of the consent agenda. Previously, teens who didn’t live in Niles but attended schools within the village qualified for a resident fee of $20 per year. Under the new rules, these teens would be charged the same fee as other non-residents – $35 per year.
Niles Teen Center Director Mark Williams told the Bugle that he was the one who asked for a change. The new registration software the center has been using made the previous arrangement impossible.
When asked how many teens would be affected, he said that it would be a substantial number.
“Probably half,” Williams said. “It could be about a 100 a year who are affected.”
