The Joliet Junior College expansion is well underway, with construction crews laying the foundation for a new 50,000-square-foot expansion to the Romeoville campus.

First built in 1993, the Romeoville campus is located just off Weber Road and 135th Street. The expansion will include a new two-story facility and will serve as the new entrance to the campus directly facing 135th Street.

Since October 2014, Demonica Kemper Architects has worked with college committees to assess the specific programming needs for the facility.

The lower level will be dedicated to student support services, including career counseling, guidance, a bookstore and cafeteria. The second level will house science laboratories and classrooms.

The college said the expansion was designed to make the Romeoville site a self-sufficient campus, similar to the main Joliet campus. School officials report that the project is on time and on budget, and expected to be completed in 2017.
