The long arms of the law may be stretched further for a good cause.
Plainfield Police will host the Armored Truck Challenge on July 30. Five-person teams can sign up to pull the 38,000-pound police vehicle. Proceeds from the event will benefit Special Olympics.
“Team Plainfield Police Department has been strength training one donut at a time. And the ARV weighs about 608,000 donuts, so we got this!,” the department posted on social media
The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Village Hall. A bounce house for kids and refreshment purchases will be available during the event.
Registration cost is $150 per team and include Law Enforcement Torch Run t-shirts.
“We’ve seen a lot of participation from the plane pull event some groups do at the airport so we came up with pulling our big armored vehicle last year and got a great response,” Chief John Konopek said.
Teams race to see who can pull the armored vehicle 75 feet in the fastest time. The chief noted teams who focus more on an effective pulling “technique are more successful than the team with the biggest guys.”
