With temperatures that rose to 115 degrees with the heat index, and then a steady downfall of rain on Sunday, the 38th annual Plainfield Fest somehow survived the elements from Mother Nature.

From July 19 through July 21, the annual fest returned with live music, food, a bags tournament and a carnival.
Prior to the opening of the fest on Friday, a private carnival event for those with special needs kicked off on Thursday.
The Carnival for the fest this year was provided by North American Midway Entertainment and was located at Plainfield Central High School.
Saturday’s headliner for music was “Wild Thing” rapper Tone Loc with Maggie Speaks.
Other musical performances included American English, Back Country Roads and Plainfield native Eric Chesser among others.
Food Vendors such as Annabelle’s Bar BQ, Aurelio’s, Barone’s Restaurant, Dippin Dots, Feeding Frenzy Concession, Freddie’s Off the Chain, Habanero Taquito Power, Hillbilly’s Roasted Corn, Kona Ice, McWethy’s Tavern, Timbo’s Licorice Ropes, RS Concessions, S&L Catering, Salt Creek BBQ, Suzie’s Fun Foods, Tiki Island Concessions, Umbrella Azul, Uncle Les’ Kettle Corn and others fed hundreds of visitors.
The Window World Midwest Bags Tournament also returned to the Plainfield Fest this year on Sunday, where one participant said that he was not prepared to throw in the pouring rain.
“I didn’t think it was going to rain, especially this hard for the tournament,” said Chicago participant Mario Romero. “The rain makes the bags heavier so you have to throw it a little extra harder than normal which throws off timing a little bit.”
Those in charge of the event added that for $10 from every entry fee for the tournament, went to the non-for-profit organization Help Save Pets.
Teams competed for the grand prize of $8,000 in the bags tournament, being guaranteed at least six games played.
