Green Village Program – Mixed Container Garden
The 2019 Green Village Series continues on Monday, June 10 at 7 p.m., at the Plainfield Library. Sarah Beach from the Sunshine Landscaping and Garden Center demonstrates the process of creating a beautiful planter to welcome summer with the use of plants, flowers, and natural décor elements. Register online. The Green Village Series is a partnership between the Plainfield Library and the Village to provide the community with environmentally-friendly programs.
Street Improvement Program
The Village’s 2019 Non-MFT Street Improvement Program is scheduled to begin the week of June 10, weather permitting, with work scheduled in the following subdivisions this summer: Liberty Grove, Whispering Creek, and Plainsman Terrace as well as Village Center Drive. The general scope of work and order of construction activities includes the removal and replacement of selected areas of concrete sidewalk, installation of new concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter removal and replacement, drainage improvements, pavement grinding, resurfacing, and pavement striping. The limits of concrete curb and sidewalk that require removal and replacement will be marked with pink paint. Please mark any underground sprinkler and invisible fence systems to minimize the potential for damage.
Settlers’ Park Concert Series Kicks Off June 13
The 2019 Settlers’ Park Concert Series, presented by Greg and Dorothy Chapman, begins Thursday, June 13, at 7 p.m. with a concert by Johnny Russler & The Beach Bum Band, sponsored by Aerotek Design Labs, LLC. The band will play Jimmy Buffett favorites as well as music by Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, and Paul Simon.

Plainfield Emergency Management Seeking Volunteers
The Plainfield Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) is currently conducting an open enrollment period for new members. PEMA is responsible for coordinating and supporting emergency preparedness and response activities during a disaster or local emergency for the Village; providing weather spotters during severe weather events; assisting during special events in the Village; and educating the public about emergency preparedness and Homeland Security procedures. “Scoops”
The Police Department is serving up ice cream around town this summer. On June 19, from 6-8 p.m., the Police Department will be in the Arbor Subdivision at Arbor and Rueben. Be sure to stop by and have some free ice cream. Check out the schedule to find out when they will be in your neighborhood!
Settlers’ Park Movie Series Continues June 21
The Summer Movie Series, presented by Illinois American Water, continues Friday, June 21, at 8:30 p.m. The Village and Plainfield Park District will be showing The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (PG, 107 minutes), sponsored by Baxter & Woodman, Inc., in Settlers’ Park.
Concessions are available for sale and Kona Ice will be selling shaved ice. Plus, you can visit with the Plainfield Library, Police Department, and Fire Protection District before the movie begins. For more information, click here. 2019 Movie Schedule.
Village Green Construction Update
Water main work is scheduled to be completed June 8th on Commercial Street with a tie-in at James Street. The next phase of work along Commercial Street will be installing new water services/connecting existing water services to the new water main. Work will also begin north of Commercial Street with sanitary sewer installation along Des Plaines Street and water main installation along Illinois Street.
This work is part of the underground utility improvements in the Village Green area (Fox River Drive, Commercial Street, Ottawa Street, Chicago Street, Des Plaines Street, and Illinois Street). The project includes water main and water service replacement, sanitary sewer main extensions, and new storm sewer. Please be aware that on-street parking restrictions will be posted and daytime lane closures are required to complete the work safely. Work on the utility improvements is scheduled to be completed by November 22, 2019.
Electric Aggregation Update
The Village is part of the Will Electric Aggregation Group which selected Constellation as its electric supplier in October 2018. The negotiated rate is $.07517/kWh and the contract runs through October 2021.
ComEd recently released their rates for the next 12 months. These rates will be lower than those provided by Constellation.
Constellation rate: $0.07517/kWh
ComEd summer rate: $0.06725/kWh
ComEd non-summer price: $0.07216/kWh (estimated, may be adjusted slightly)
Residents are able to opt-out of the contract with Constellation, at anytime, with no penalty or fee, by contacting Constellation Energy at 1-844-252-4216 or online at www.constellation.com/il-willcounty.

Office Closures
In 2019, the Village Offices will be closed July 4 (Independence Day); September 2 (Labor Day); November 11 (Veterans Day); November 28-29 (Thanksgiving); and December 24-25 (Christmas).
Refuse Collection Delays
Refuse collection will be delayed due to the following holidays in 2019:
Independence Day (Thursday, July 4) – Refuse collection for Thursday routes will be delayed by one day.
Labor Day (Monday, September 2) – Refuse collection will be one day late all week.
Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 28) – Refuse collection for Thursday routes will be delayed by one day.
Christmas (Wednesday, December 25) – Refuse collection for Wednesday and Thursday routes will be delayed one day.
Yard Waste Collection
Yard waste collection has resumed. Brush, grass clippings, and leaves should be placed in Kraft yard waste bags or a Waste Management yard waste cart. Branches must be tied in 4 foot bundles weighing 50 pounds or less. Please note: trees, stumps, dirt, stones, pavers, mulch, and sod are not accepted as yard waste.

If you are a member of a Homeowners Association Board (HOA) or a management company that represents a local HOA, please e-mail the Village your contact information (name, address, phone number, e-mail address, subdivision, and Board position). That way, we can provide information regarding work that is scheduled to occur in your subdivision.
