Throughout July, pick up a copy of the 2018 Parks and Recreation Month Activity packet and the Building Summer Fun Guidebook which includes fun learning activities for kids. Once completed, turn in both at the rec/admin center, 23729 W. Ottawa St. for a scout prize pack and an added plush Scout.

This year, it’s all about highlighting the unique – and sometimes unknown – offerings in the Plainfield Park District from programs about dinosaurs to those that get people active.

During July, carve out some time to check out one of our three dog parks, cool off at the Ottawa Street Pool, put your boat in the water at one of our four canoe launches, relax at one of our 18 fishing ponds or try a yoga class at the Plainfield Township Community Center.

Special events for July also include:

Plainfield Park District Patriotic Picnic and Fireworks on July 3: The event starts at 6 p.m. at 24120 W. Fort Beggs Dr. with fireworks scheduled to begin at dusk.

Ottawa St. Pool special events for July include: Soldier’s Salute (free admission for veterans) on July 4; Christmas in July on July 11 and Flick n’ Floats night on July 21 with the movie “Little Giants.”

“July is the perfect time to highlight all the benefits the Plainfield Park District provides to the more than 100,000 residents we serve not only here in Plainfield but in parts of Joliet, Romeoville, Crest Hill and Bolingbrook as well,” said Executive Director Carlo Capalbo.

“Our day camps and other programs are up and running, kids are off from school, and parents are looking for active things to do with their families outdoors.”

Nationally, NRPA is celebrating Park and Recreation Month with a weekly contest encouraging people to show them the unique things they’ve discovered at their local parks by sharing something new they’ve discovered with the hashtag #DiscoverJuly.
