In just the first two weeks of the White Oak Library District’s Summer Reading Challenge, over 1,500 children signed up to read for prizes, earn a book to keep, and snag an invite to the Finale Party. This year’s July 14 party features the usual games, prizes, and fun, but new this year will be a hot dog lunch with all the trimmings; due in large part to the generosity of the Crest Hill Women’s Civic League who is sponsoring the event. Also new this year is the location: the gorgeous outdoor space behind the Crest Hill Branch Library, perfect for the hot dog food truck, tons of games, and children and families from all three of the communities served by the White Oak.
The only way to get an invitation to the Finale is to complete “Escape! Discover Your Summer Adventure,” which required six hours of reading and one random act of kindness. Children who earn an invite get to bring their entire family, too.
There is still plenty of time to sign up and to read. Registration for the Reading Challenge is at all White Oak Library locations, Crest Hill, Lockport, and Romeoville, through the second week of July.
