AJ Casmer and Damien Guerrero, led the Lions to an 8-1 win – their 20th win of the season and to the 2018 Class 2A Lisle Regional Championship, at Field No. 7, on Saturday. Along the banks of the beautiful, Du Page River, Casmer, was light’s out for the Lions (20-11), punching-out a dozen Charger batters. Casmer, scattered seven Charger hits, to improve to 8-2 on the mound this season.
Damien Guerrero, continued his torrid hitting of late, with two more hits and three RBI. Zach Heidenry, added a hit and an RBI, while Collin Nigro, also drove home a Lion run.
The Lions will take on DePaul College Prep, in the second, Class 2A Immaculate Conception Sectional Semifinal on Wednesday May 23, at Plunkett Park, in Elmhurst, at 6:30.
NONCONFERENCE
Plainfield South 4 St. Charles North 2
The Cougars (21-9) turned the lights out on their host North Stars, from St. Charles North, on Saturday.
Plainfield South, exploded for four runs in the second inning, led by RBIs, from Dom Lentini and Tony Mosher. AJ Mannucci, continued his all-out assault on opposing pitchers, with a pair of singles, while hot-hitting, third baseman Zach Pawlak, chipped in with a single.
Lefty Austin Richardson , Cougar winning pitcher Ryan Harty (6-2) and Carson Harvey, shutout the North Stars, until the bottom of the seventh.
St. Charles North (23-6), scored a pair of runs, to pull within 4-2. With two outs and the tying run at the plate, Cougar record-setting closer, junior Griffin Lapp, was called upon by Cougar head coach Phil Bodine, to put out the fire.
Lapp, extended his school record for saves, nailing down his eighth of the season, as he fired strike three, past the last North Star batter!
Downers Grove South 3, Maine South 0
In a nonconference battle, between a pair of Voyager Media schools, the West Suburban Conference Gold co-champions, from DGS, blanked Maine South. Nick Stacey improved to (8-1) for the Mustangs (21-9), firing a three-hitter at the Hawks (11-20).
Jordan Knoch, led the Mustang attack with a hit and two RBI, while Jack Blazevich continued his torrid hitting, with two more hits.
