Plainfield police are investigating what is being described as a “suspicious death,” after officers discovered a motorist slumped in her seat at an intersection near village hall early Monday evening.

The Plainfield Police Department said officers responded to the intersection of Lockport Street and Van Dyke Road at 6:02 p.m. Feb. 1 in reference to a small, white SUV stopped in traffic with a female driver slumped in her seat.

Police said officers approached the vehicle and noticed that it was apparent she had suffered severe trauma to the head.

Plainfield fire and ambulance personnel arrived and began emergency medical treatment. The female victim was transported to Copley Hospital in Aurora, but she was pronounced dead a short time after arriving.

Lockport Street between Van Dyke and Wallin Drive was closed for about two hours while investigators and evidence technicians processed the scene.

The Plainfield Police Department Investigations Division is conducting a suspicious death investigation and asking anyone with information to call Detective Dino Dabezic at 815-439-7652.

Authorities have not released the name of the victim and have not said whether or not they suspect foul play. At press time, Plainfield police had not returned requests for comment.
