Seventeen-year veteran elementary and middle school teacher and administrator Scott Winters will serve as principal at Lakewood Falls Elementary School in 2018-19.
Winters has been the principal at Desert Spirit Elementary School in Glendale, Arizona since 2015. He will replace Dr. Tina Olson at Lakewood Falls and will officially start July 1.
Winters started his education career in 2001 as a 5th grade teacher in Phoenix, Arizona. He served from 2004 to 2005 as a teacher on special assignment for 6th grade.
He then spent two years as assistant principal at Heatherbrae Elementary School, and seven years as principal at Marc T. Atkinson Middle School. Both are also in Phoenix.
Before taking his current position in 2015, Winters worked for about 18 months as the Assistant Director of STEM, College and Career Readiness for the Cartwright School District in Phoenix.
A New Jersey native and Arizona transplant, Winters’ wife is from Bridgeview, and graduated from the University of Illinois-Chicago. He said they’re excited to return to the Chicago area and be closer to family.
“I am very passionate about education and I look forward to partnering with stakeholders in order to provide our students with a rigorous, engaging, and high-quality elementary school experience,” Winters said.
“I promise to do everything possible to continue the family-like atmosphere at Lakewood Falls as we strive towards excellence,” he said.
“Scott is a talented educator and we look forward to his contributions to both Lakewood Falls and District 202,” said Dr. Scott Fink, District 202’s director of elementary administration and personnel.
