Nelson Elementary School of East Maine School District 63 in Niles held their Sixth Annual McTeacher’s Night at the Niles McDonald’s on Milwaukee Road on January 18. A McTeacher’s Night is organized to help raise money for local schools by having the teachers work at McDonald’s and then giving a percentage of the nights sales to
the local school.
The restaurant was taken over by teachers excited to serve freshly prepared meals to students and their families to raise money for Nelson Elementary School PTO. The students and families were excited to see their teachers and principals behind the counter and throughout the restaurant.
Twenty-two teachers and staff members worked from the elementary school including Principal Lauren Leitao and Assistant Principal Marc Infante. The McTeacher’s jobs included greeting guests, cleaning the lobby, working the front counter, serving drinks, clearing tables, selling pies and even dressing up in a pie costume–all duties which were executed with great enthusiasm.
Nelson Elementary School 4th grade teacher Courtney Waller and Assistant Principal Marc Infante had a blast dancing around the restaurant in a pie costume. They were encouraging the families to make a donation and receive a delicious hot apple pie. A special shout out goes to teachers Nicole Goerner and Laurie Friedman who assisted
the “pie” in selling 240 pies!
One highlight of the evening is when the school received a tip in the tip jar Nelson Elementary School staff members Justin Tews and Megan Arado encouraged all the staff members to sing the McDonald’s jingle.
The tips kept pouring in all night long.
A special thank you goes to Stephanie Lawando who organized the event as well as everyone that worked and attended the event. Nelson Elementary School teachers worked hard and with excitement, while the families enjoyed a spectacular evening. The Nelson Elementary School PTO plans to use the money raised for the 6th grade celebration field trip and graduation t-shirts for the entire 6th grade class.
Nelson Elementary School raised over $1,100.00 at the event thanks to all generous families who supported the school.
