Plainfield native named dental society president Bradley W. Barnes, DDS, of Normal, a graduate of Plainfield High School, and son of Bill and Barb Barn of Plainfield, was recently named President of the Illinois State Dental Society (ISDS), a professional association of over 7,000 members.
He was installed into office at the Society’s Annual Session. As president, Dr. Barnes’ responsibilities include serving as an official representative of ISDS in its contacts with government, civic, business and professional organizations.
Dr. Barnes, a general dentist in Normal, graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1985. Dr. Barnes has been very active in organized dentistry since graduation, from the local level, where he is a past President of the McLean County Dental Society, to the state level where he has been active in several committees, including P.A.N.D.A. (Prevent Abuse and Neglect through Dental Awareness), the Public Relations Committee and General Chair of ISDS Annual Session in 2006.
In 2010 and 2014, Dr. Barnes co-chaired the Illinois State Dental Society’s Mission of Mercy events, where nearly $1 million of free dental work was performed on 2,000 needy patients at each event.
On the national level, Dr. Barnes has served on the American Dental Association’s Communications Council, House of Delegates and served as an Advocacy Summit Representative.
Locally, Dr. Barnes has participated in the Normal Rotary Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes Board, Boy Scout Troop Leader and Jeremiah Sportsmen.
Dr. Barnes has made several mission trips, including dental missions, to Swaziland, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Haiti and one to Northern Africa.
He and his wife Becky reside in Normal.
