Dementia and the aging process will be the focus of a program at Summit of Uptown Oct. 6.

Ruth Friedman, PhD, MSN, RN, will be the featured speaker. She has focused her career on helping older adults with physical or cognitive impairment remain in a community setting. Friedman received her Masters of Nursing from Loyola University and her doctoral degree in human development and social policy from Northwestern University. She received the 1995 Roselyn Carter Caregiver Award.

Accurate information is a critical component of dealing with dementia and the aging process according to Wilson Anhar, executive director of Summit of Uptown.

“We know that experts agree that cognitive impairment can significantly impact not only seniors, but also the family members who are called upon to care for them,” he said. “That’s why we have sponsored this program and are preparing to launch our new Memory Care Neighborhood that will specialize in caring for those with Alzheimer’s and other memory impairments.”

This is the second in a series of educational events that focus on issues that impact the lives and well being of seniors. There is no charge for the event but reservations are requested.

To reserve a seat, call Josephine Bernero at 847-825-1161 or email her at jbernero@arborcompany.com. The discussion begins at 6 p.m. at Summit of Uptown, 10 N. Summit Ave., Park Ridge.
